TSEI has released its latest position paper recommending “Congress should direct NHTSA, FMCSA, and other federal agencies to adopt the voluntary consensus standards of accredited standards development organizations (SDO’s), such as the Society of Automotive Engineers (and others where relevant), in regulating the safety equipment of motor vehicles generally, and motor vehicle lighting and related equipment in particular. Furthermore, Congress should mandate that said agencies update their regulations to adopt the most recent relevant standards no less than every 5 years.”
